Rector message - new university year

Rector message - new university year

Dear students,

Medical higher education distinguishes itself from other forms of higher education by a number of features. One of the most significant is the fact that the specifics of our profession and the training in the field of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or medical bioengineering cannot be feasible through distance learning. There is also a European Directive (Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament on the recognition of professional qualifications) which states that bedside, patient-centered teaching is a key aspect of medical training and that practical activities are essential for the acquisition of clinical skills. Specifically, the lack of practical training may risk the international academic recognition of your diplomas.

I fully agree with online courses. You all have access to the recommended readings and courses materials. However, I do not agree with the practical training being held in an online, computer-based setting. This scenario makes it impossible for students to develop their clinical reasoning, critical reflection and decision making, formulation of a diagnosis and therapeutic principles. All these skills cannot be acquired through the computer.

Starting with September 28, 2020 the University's teaching activities will take place in a hybrid manner: exclusively online course and onsite practical training. Therefore, you all must be present in Iasi on the 28th of September

Following the Order of the Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Health no. 5487/1494/2020, for the approval of the measures for organization of the activity within the educational units / institutions in safe epidemiological conditions, for the prevention of the diseases with SARS-CoV-2, the University will elaborate a Plan of Measures for the Teaching Activities which, after its approval by the University Senate, will be brought to the attention of the entire academic community.

I am fully aware that the question on everyone's lips is: "When do we start school and how: online, onsite or hybrid?" My answer is "September 28, hybrid".

I'm looking forward to seeing you again!

Sincerely Yours,

Professor Viorel Scripcariu,
Rector
